Yesterday I talked about “How to Make a Fire Safety Family Plan.” While that is so important to do, it is also important to teach our kids about Fire Safety. I remember having assemblies with Firefighters and a Fire Engine so we could see what their fire suits and equipment looked like – in hopes that we wouldn’t be scared if a firefighter had to rescue us.
When searching the internet for some great Fire Safety Week Info, I came across some super cute printables for preschool – elementary ages.
First, I found the Scholastic site, which has teamed up with the NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) to create some great age appropriate printables. Simply click on the New Lessons and Printables tab and then the age group you want. Scroll down and there’s more: Lesson plans, downloadable worksheets, Fire Safety quizzes and resource lists from the NFPA. You can even find some interactive games for the older elementary kids!!
Next, I came across a site called Apples 4 the Teacher. What a GREAT site all around, but I was particularly impressed with all they put together for Fire Safety Week. They have compiled coloring pages for all ages. Some are simple pictures and some are more detailed for the older kids. They have also compiled a list of great Fire Safety books to read aloud with your kids and some readers for the older kids too. And finally, they have compiled a fun set of printables to help your kids really remember about Fire Safety.
And one of my FAVORITE sites for quick and easy printables is School Express. On left side of their home page you will see their FREE Weekly Thematic Units available only to their email subscribers. Simply enter your email address and you will receive a weekly email on Sundays (usually) for a FREE Thematic Unit. I have not used all of their weekly units, but I have used a lot of them and we love them. I usually print them out in booklet form. (If you don’t want to wait until next week, you can download it here for $2.00)
How do you print them in booklet form? Simply download the thematic unit and open it back up in Adobe or Adobe Reader. (Download Adobe Reader free here.)
Click the printer button at the top of the screen.
On the print screen click booklet
Also, make sure it says both sides, so it will tell you when and how to flip your pages to print the backside.
Make sure you change the pages to print. You don’t need the first page or the last page. Those are just for your information.
Don’t forget to click PRINT!!!
Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy!
I love to do the booklet form for Mister Bull. It keeps all the pages together easily and it’s like he’s working in a workbook. I usually have him do 4 pages a day for the unit and then he puts the booklet in the next day’s folder. It’s a good system for both of us. We’ve been able to keep track of all our assignments this way.
How do you teach your kids about Fire Safety? Do you have family practice drills?
Thanks for stopping by today!
Blessings,
Annette
